I haven't read a lot of your books, but the ones I have read, I love them! I love Hank The Cowdog books so much, I even have a Hank The Cowdog email address! I am your biggest fan! Right now, I am Reading "Murder in the Middle Pasture".

One of my favorites was "The Case of the Vanishing Fishhook".That was so funny when Little Alfred got Pete wet! (Tee- Hee!) I just joined Hank's Security Force. I know it will be cool! Well, I have to go. I have a lot of Hank The Cowdog books to read!

This is my first time writing to you. My cousin is the one who got me involved in this. In your book number two, you were fighting that bully dog, Rufus. You said that when you were fighting him there were two pictures of him and coudn't find out which one to go after.I did a little experiment and found out its neither of the pictures you see. the real one is in between both of them.

Grandma's Hank is never as clever as you are, after all he takes a nap every afternoon with a rabbit named "Shoo". We have a cow dog too. She has the misfortune of living in the city right now. She is a blue heeler named "Rover". She has problems in the spring when ewe's with lambs tend to get the better of her. Dear Mr. Erickson,

Over the past two years you have made my job alot easier and I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your series. I have been teaching special education since 1991. A friend in Bath , NC first told me about your series and how funny they were. I teach children with learning disabilities which usually entails boys who hate to read. I have been reading Hank books now aloud for the past three years. They beg for them - our librarian has a waiting list! Currently we only have a few but our librarian has caught the students excitement and has promised me if funds permit she will send for more Hank books!
I have been buying one per week from our local bookstore and using it as a reward to insight good behavior. The children I teach our very poor and live in housing projects. I have found it very rewarding to find a series that they can relate to. They love Hank! I will have them write you soon . Thank you for inspiring my children and making me laugh. I just wanted to let you know what fans you have in our 3 sons. Their ages are 14,12 & 4&1/2. They listen to Hank tapes every night while they are going to sleep and at naptime (the 4&1/2 year old anyway). They love to read all your books, also. It's not hard to get them to read if there is a Hank book involved. They are all wonderful stories and we enjoy them so much. Thank you for writing them and giving them something decent to read.

We have been checking your tapes out at the library. My husband and I decided to try and buy them tapes of their own instead. I just placed an order and I can't wait to get them and see their faces when they open them for Christmas and realize they now have Hank tapes of their own!

John Erickson,
You probably have many ideas concerning what you want to write inyour Hank Books but my husband, Jerry and I have been Hank fans for several years now and 14 years ago Jerry purchased an Queensland Healer pup. We named him Hank. He has been such a great, loving companion for Jerry. Two years ago Hank developed cancer and the vet removed it. We were so sad thinking that he didn't have long to be around but to our surprise, he is still with us. To make a long story short, Jerry bought an Austrian Aussie pup so that Hank could train the pup in his ways. During the past 2 years there have been so many funny stories concerning these two dogs relationships - Hank trying to shape this fisty pup into shape to take over his duties. Hank in his old age has gotten grumpy and short tempered. Sacket, the new pup, never pays him much mind because of his fantastic self-concept. We believe that Sacket has lengthened Hank's life span. They act like two little kids. Our 2 year old and 6 year old granddaughters do from time to time remind us of the two dogs fussing. Jerry and I have read most of the Hank books but were also wondering if you ever had considered the idea of Hank being sick and having to go to the vet for a few days stay. Just thoughts.

Thanks for sharing these wonderful books with us. Several years ago you came to Farwell and spent the night and did an assembly at our middle school. What a treat that was for our community and then later came for
our Chamber of Commerce Banquet. Jerry has been the middle school principal here for many years and I taught reading in the same building for 31 years. You turned many of my reluctant readers into fans with

I was wondering how everyone back at the ranch is doing. Well I'm doing fine back here in Ohio. Things haven't changed much on our farm in the hills. We saw three or four inches of snow, but it lasted
few only a few days. By the way, I was wondering how old Hank is supposed to be. Well, I understand Hank's adventures have been told long enough to make Hank about 135 in dog years, but that's almost impossible.

So, actually how old is hank
supposed to be in his series? 5,6,7 ? I would really like to know.

Do you know that I am an amateur child writer. Well, sort of. I have written almost 50 stories over my computer. War stories, Funny Stories, Westerns, Sad Stories, even fake biographies that I make up off of the top of my head. My average story is about 10 pages long, but my longest is 37 pages long. It's a western I wrote called The Desperadoes, based on a pretend movie series my cousin and I made up when we used to play cowboys and indians, some 3 years ago. It took me about 3 months to complete.(And none of the stories I have written were school assignments.)

I have though written stories for school. At school I am an Honor Role student, and my teachers told me that they want me to be part of a writing club for gifted children called "Power of the Pen". But do you know who my first inspiration to write was?

You, and Mr. Erickson, and you still inspire me.

I own 13 of your books, read 20. have 2 cassette tapes as well as my own Hank the Cowdog Security Folder, kind of like a Hank scrap book, and a Hank Poster in my room. I am also a member of your security division, at age 12.

which your books take place, the country. As a 12 year old subscriber to the adult magazine, "Country", you might be able to tell I have a passion for country. It must be because I was raised, and still live on a 135 acre farm in rural southeastern Ohio, and that I grew up watching old westerns set in Texas. I am so glad I was raised the way I was.

You are my hero! I'm a working cow dog hear in Santa Cruz CA, and I've learned alot alot from reading and hearing your exploits in your books. Mostly hearing as I don't read so well.

I have a question that I know you can answer. We run all Angus, most all are black with a few red and some blonde. (The blondes really are the dumbest, don't you think?) Anyway, we dehorn the calves but some of the sale cows we bring in have horns. Those horned cows have a major attitude problem! When I politely ask them to move they just stare at me. When I transition into full cow dog mode and really lay into them they throw those horns at me. Sometimes they start to herding me, head down full speed, sharpened horns and all.

I don't fear bulls or many cows but those 4 ton 6 horn sale cows with the metal hooves and steel tipped tails send me under the truck. Of course then my cowboy grabs me and throws me at those monsters. Gratitude huh?
