"Recently, Carlsbad residents experienced a day of haze and smoke that blew in from wildfires burning in Texas.  It looked a bit foggy, and smelled like somebody had fired up the grill. It turned out we were experiencing effects of wildfires in the Texas panhandle. News Channel 10 in Amarillo, TX, reported on March 7th that rancher John R. Erickson of Perryton, TX, lost most of his property, including his house, although his family and many of his animals survived the fires.

John Erickson also happens to be a bestselling author, and a local favorite as well, judging by the high circulation numbers for his books at Carlsbad Public Library.  He has published over 60 titles in his original “Hank the Cowdog” series since 1983, and book #69, “The Case of the Wandering Goat,” will be released this spring.

Not only is Erickson a rancher and a writer, he is also a gifted performer, recording the audiobooks for each of Hank’s adventures personally (and adding in some original music with the recordings to boot). Erickson’s recordings are great family listening for car trips or anytime..."
